This action consensus is the binding framework for our actions of civil disobedience. It was developed in a collective process and decided by consensus of all participants. It is therefore very important to us. The action consensus is a prerequisite for the “Sand im Getriebe” actions to be transparent for all participants and clear in their scope. It states that we look out for each other and support each other, even in a mass action with very many people. We invite everyone who can agree to the following consensus to participate in our actions.
#BlockIAA is an openly announced action of civil disobedience: in the period from 9th to 13th September 2021, we will, together with many people, block the International Motor Show (IAA) in Munich and disturb the smooth running of the IAA.
In doing so, we are sending a disobedient signal against a destructive industry that gives itself a green veneer but is burning up our climate worldwide. Our action is also directed against the politics of inaction that prevent an ecological and sustainable transformation of our transport system but instead continues to support the car industry. We are fighting resolutely for a transport system that is made for people, not cars.
Our actions stand in the long tradition of civil disobedience. Given the urgency of the climate crisis and the collapse of our transportation system, we believe that it is necessary and appropriate to go a step further: from public protest to civil disobedience.
Our actions offer a variety of opportunities for participation. In our actions, the safety of the participating activists and everybody else has top priority for us – we do not want to endanger or hurt anyone. Our protest is not directed against individuals, but against the political-industrial system of the car. We will disrupt the International Motor Show with our bodies. It is not the goal to destroy or damage infrastructure. We will not let ourselves be stopped by constructional obstacles, we will flow through or around barriers of police or private security. We will behave in a calm and level-headed manner. No escalation will come from us. We are looking forward to further creative, self-organized actions of small groups against the IAA and for a social and ecologically just mobility change.
To cope with the current developments around the COVID-19 pandemic, ‘Sand im Getriebe’ has intensively dealt with the topic on different levels in the run-up to Action 2021 and developed far-reaching hygiene concepts to keep the risk of infection low. (Hygiene concept to be published).
We come from different social movements and political spectrums. Together we take responsibility for the success of the action. We want to create a situation that is transparent for all participants and in which we look out for each other and support each other. Whether experienced in protest or not, everyone should be able to participate. With action training in the run-up as well as a targeted action planning we prepare together for the actions.
The end of the blockade will be decided in consultation with the support structures and the delegate plenum. If small groups want to maintain the blockade beyond that, individual support structures will decide whether and how they can continue to support them.
We are in solidarity with everyone who resists climate destruction and the auto industry, especially people in the Global South. We want to be feminist, anti-fascist, anti-racist, anti-capitalist and against all anti-semitism in our struggles. We are aware of everyday and structural discrimination among ourselves and by our environment and actively work against it. We strive to offer space to those who experience discrimination and to raise collective awareness and attention to it. We strongly oppose any homophobic, ableist, patriarchal, nationalistic, racist, conspiracy theories, or other reactionary tendencies and their attempts of appropriation.
